One of Ethiopia’s most iconic artists, the ethio-jazz maestro started out playing keys for the ground-breaking Addis Ababa group Walias Band, before going on to work with legendary vibraphonist Mulatu Astatke.
Forced into exile, he emigrated to the US and ended up driving a cab in Washington – something he continues to this day whilst practicing his keyboard chops in the back seat during downtimes.
Returning to live music in 2013 following his rediscovery by Brian Shimkovitz and Awesome Tapes, he’s gone on to re-release four lost albums that weave synthesizer’s, electric piano and rhythm machine into his rich accordion harmonies – pure Sunday bliss.
