Rachel Nagy - A Celebration of Life, Love, & Leaving
$10
In honor of the fearless life that Rachel Nagy lived, friends & fans will gather on Sunday August 28th, 2022 to celebrate her electric spirit in light of her passing earlier this year. As the site of countless Detroit Cobras performances the Magic Stick is as fitting a location as possible, a stage Rachel had dominated with power while enrapturing the thousands who’d witness her command the room there.
The Detroit Cobras - Kenny Tudrick (drums), Steve Nawara (guitar) Dale Wilson (bass) and founding member Mary Cobra (guitar) - will perform with special guest vocalist Marcus Durant (MC50, Zen Guerilla). Marcus made a deep spiritual connection to the band while on tour together in 2018 as part of the MC50th celebration of the 50th anniversary of the MC5’s Kick Out The Jams LP.
Also in performance will be Memphis’ Compulsive Gamblers, returning to Detroit (and specifically the Magic Stick stage) for the first time since 1999. Featuring the esteemed Jack Yarber and long-time Detroit Cobras collaborator Greg Cartwright, the Gamblers and the Cobras shared an intangible connection over the years that would serve as the basis of a fruitful Detroit to Memphis psychic highway of musical inspiration.
Rounding out the bill are relative newcomers the Sugar Tradition with special guest Johnny Walker of the Soledad Brothers.
Steeped in the lore of Detroit rock and roll history and one of the best current young bands in the city, the Sugar Tradition has already incorporated Detroit Cobras cover arrangements into their set and after two stellar performances earlier this year opening for Jack White at the Masonic Temple, the band is ready for their close-up.
Proceeds will be donated to Detroit Animal Care (www.friendsofdacc.org) in Rachel Nagy’s name.
