Beloved musician David Smeltz, previously produced House Fest, before tragically passing away last year, due to Covid19. “Papa Dave” also founded Clean House, Inc., which the annual event benefits.
Changed Lives Empowered And New (CLEAN) is what the 501(c)3 nonprofit organization still stands for, as the current Clean House Board of Directors carries on their Founder’s legacy. Clean House, now well established at 11910 Buckeye Rd., Cleveland, OH 44120, offers community programming 7 days a week, including 12 Steps Recovery meetings, yoga classes, Martial Arts and more. While he was alive, Dave Smeltz himself taught guitar and Kung Fu at the storefront location. The Clean House Board is also working to fulfill Dave’s dying wish, to acquire another building, from which to better fulfill Clean House’s original primary vision, providing transitional housing for men recovering from addiction to drugs and alcohol.
The growing bill of acts donating their talents for this year’s event include legendary singer songwriter Alex Bevan, CSNY band Long Time Gone, the popularly acclaimed Jah Messengers Reggae Band and local Jamaican recording artist J.R. Blessington. Renegade, BBC and friends, Universal Funk Mob, Scotty D. & the Artificial Hipster and more will all lend their musical skills to the diverse list of acts. Shākē Ground, a new name on the local music scene, featuring area reggae music veterans, will close out the night. Butchie B. will be the evening’s MC.
