ALL THE LONG NIGHTS, North American Premiere, TORONTO JAPANESE FILM FESTIVAL
Misa suffers from extreme premenstrual syndrome with erratic personality swings that see her lash out verbally at co-workers, ultimately costing her her job. Fast forward five years and she is working for a small company that makes scientific instruments for children. Co-worker Takatoshi is silent, withdrawn and prone to debilitating panic attacks. A relationship gradually emerges - not a romantic one but rather one based on empathy, kindness and the desire to help the other with their struggles. Inspired by a touchingly poetic narration taped long ago by their boss’s deceased brother, Misa and Takatoshi plan an annual planetarium show and together discover a new way of looking at the world that expands their minds and heals their hearts. Gentle, heartfelt, beautifully acted and based on Maiko Seo’s novel.
Starring Hokuto Matsumura, Mone Kamishiraishi, Kiyohiko Shibukawa, Ryo, Ken Mitsuishi
